About Melissa Tremmel
Education: Bachelors of Arts, Secondary English Education
Certifications: SPINNING, CPR, First Aid, YMCA Course Trainings
I grew up in Lexington, Michigan, graduating from Croswell-Lexington High School in 1977. I received a BA in secondary English education from the University of South Florida, and began teaching in 1994. I currently teach high school English full time at my alma mater, Cros-Lex High.
I have always been into running, biking, and fitness. As a kid I was always running around, climbing trees, and playing outdoors. I was never into organized sports but always found my own ways to stay active. I started running races and triathlons in 2006. My favorites include Back to the Beach Half Marathon, PoHo Hot Cocoa, International Blue Water Bridge Run, and Dances with Dirt Trail Run. My favorite fitness activities include running, biking, spinning, weight training, core work, flinging, flailing, and leaping about with a purpose!
Fitness Training History
I have always had a passion for helping people reach their fitness goals. In 1984, I began teaching aerobics at Kevin’s Gym in Punta Gorda, Florida. I also taught hi-lo cardio at the local community center. In 1998, I started teaching workout classes at the YMCA in Zephyrhills, Florida. Most of my training has come from various YMCA courses, including Foundations of Group Fitness, Stability Ball, Personal Training, and Step Cardio. In 2006 I earned my SPINNING certification and more recently a “Boot Camp” certification.
Erin Renno and I first met when I attended her fitness class while vacationing in Michigan from Florida. A friend wanted me to meet her amazing instructor–Erin! When I moved back to Michigan in the Summer of 2011, I began working with her at Living Strong. When Living Strong closed its doors, Erin opened ER Fitness and asked me to join her. I’ve been working at ER Fitness part time ever since. During the time I’ve been with Erin, I have also taught indoor cycling (SPINNING) at the Port Huron YMCA, and assisted the cross-country coach at Landmark Academy during two seasons. I believe we are each responsible for maintaining our own health. Sometimes we need guidance and that’s where fitness instructors can help. My goal is to provide a safe, effective, fun way for you to reach your goals! I love my fitness peeps!
